Birds Bed and Breakfast-Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Where are you located?

We are located in Milton, Ontario. If you can’t get to us, we can pick up your bird in its travel cage at the start of boarding and return your bird to you at the end of boarding. This service comes at an extra cost and is calculated based on distance travelled.

Do you provide boarding for pets other than birds?

No. We specialize in the care and boarding of birds only. There are no other animals at our facility and no visitors enter the facility with any animals. This is to protect the health and safety of the birds we care for.

How many cages are there in your facility and what sizes are they?

We have six cages in our facility of varying sizes to suit small, medium, and large birds. Once you tell us which specie of bird you’re boarding with us, we assign a suitable size to ensure your bird’s comfort. Birds housed together in your home are assigned a larger cage at our facility so that they may stay together but are also comfortable.

Can I bring my bird’s cage for boarding at your facility?

For ease of transport and to preserve the condition of our facility, please bring your bird in its travel cage. We will assign a cage that is appropriate for your bird’s size and in which it will be comfortable and content.

We do however make exceptions for special needs birds who must board with us in their own cage because they have specific needs. Please email us at BirdsBedAndBreakfast@gmail.com to discuss further.

Are you able to provide boarding for birds with special needs?

Yes. If your bird has for example lost a limb in the past, is unable to fly or has behavioural issues, we may be able to look after it at our facility. Please email us details of your bird’s needs at BirdsBedAndBreakfast@gmail.com and we will advise on what we can offer. This service may come at an extra cost.

Please note - birds with fresh injuries and/or who are sick can’t be boarded at our facility - please take your bird to an avian veterinarian.

Can you provide the fresh fruit and vegetables my bird prefers?

Absolutely! Our booking form has full information on what’s included in bird boarding. In this form, we also ask you about your bird’s dietary preferences and needs.

How much time can my bird have outside the cage?

We alternate out-of-cage time for birds in our facility. This means that each bird will have several opportunities daily to fly and access the play stands and toys.

Will my bird get individual attention during boarding?

Yes. Each bird will get daily 1:1 time with one of our carers. During this time, we conduct well-being checks and play with your bird using toys. We believe this 1:1 time is important for the bird’s health, well-being, and enrichment.

What cleaning products do you use to clean the cages and the facility?

We use a mix of dish soap and white vinegar to clean the cages, play stands, and floors daily.

Do you have social media pages?

Yes. Please join us on Facebook and Instagram to keep updated on our services.
